Tunku Alang Reza Tunku Ibrahim was one of two persons killed in a road accident in Mersing yesterday, say police.
PETALING JAYA: A Johor man who was previously a suspect in the alleged murder of an Estonian model, died in a car accident yesterday evening, The Star reported.
Tunku Alang Reza Tunku Ibrahim, 31, whom the Johor Council of the Royal Court had previously denied was a member of Johor royalty, was killed when the SUV he was in, crashed into a bus stop near an industrial training institute in Mersing.
He is said to have died at the scene of the accident, while the driver of the vehicle, whom police identified as Salma @ Noraini Adam, 37, was taken to the Mersing Hospital but died from her injuries.
According to the police, two other women passengers in the car – identified as Puteri Nur Zawani Mohd Rasid, 33, and Nor Faizah Abdul Malek – are currently receiving treated in the same hospital for injuries they sustained in the accident.
“Initial investigations showed that the group was heading to Johor Bahru from Mersing when the driver lost control of the vehicle at KM15 of Jalan Jemaluan—Mersing,” DSP Cyril Edward Nuing said in a statement released to the media today.
Tunku Alang made headlines after he was arrested, along with six others, over the death of Estonian model Regina Soosalu on Pulau Rawa, off Mersing, in July 2014.
He was said to be her boyfriend and had been arrested after police investigating what was thought to be a case of death due to drowning, changed the direction of the investigation into that of murder after discovering suspicious wounds on her body.
It was not the only time Tunku Alang had been in trouble with the law. In June this year, he was charged with three counts of taking methamphetamine and possessing similar drugs and ganja.
After reports of him being a member of Johor royalty, the Johor Council of Royal Court released an official statement denying he had any ties to the Johor royal household.
Council president Abdul Rahim Ramli said the privilege and power to appoint and include a person or persons as a member of the Johor Royal Family was vested in the Sovereign as provided for under Article 7 (2) (e) of the Second Part of the Johor State Constitution of 1895.
“The suspect was never included in the royalty list. A royal decree of 1922 categorically excludes persons not appointed by the Sovereign under the said Article from being recognised as royalty,” Rahim said in the statement released on Sept 22.
