PETALING JAYA: The “Datuk Seri” who allegedly assaulted three Rela members outside a temple in Jalan Ampang on Friday has surrendered himself to the police.
Selangor CID chief SAC Fadzil Ahmat said the man surrendered himself at the Ampang district police headquarters at 4.20pm today.
“The case will be investigated under Sections 186 and 324 of the Penal Code,” he said when contacted by FMT.
In the incident at about 6.30am on Friday, the three Rela members — Melvin Cheong Mun Khai, 19, Lee Weng Poh, 27, and Leong Jiun Jie, 21 – suffered injuries to their head, eye and abdomen after they were allegedly punched and kicked by the suspect.
The assault happened after the Rela members asked the “Datuk Seri” to move his Toyota Vellfire as the vehicle was obstructing traffic.
Yesterday, Fadzil said the police had identified the 29-year-old suspect.
He urged the suspect to surrender himself to assist the police investigation for allegedly causing hurt and obstructing public officers from carrying out their duty.
Deputy prime minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi was quoted by Utusan Online yesterday as warning the suspect to give himself up immediately to the police.
Zahid said a title or rank was not a licence for anyone to use force against another person, especially a uniformed officer on duty.
Meanwhile, Ampang district Rela chief Ho Hoong Keong was quoted by China Press as saying that he had been contacted by four men from last night until today who offered RM10,000 each to him and the three Rela members to withdraw their police reports against the “Datuk Seri”.
Ho, accompanied by the three Rela members, held a media conference today to announce their rejection of the cash offer.
