Former PPBM vice-president says she is considering legal action against party’s youth chief Syed Saddiq Abdul Rahman over the allegation.
PETALING JAYA: Former PPBM vice-president Hamidah Osman has denied a claim by Syed Saddiq Abdul Rahman that she was offered a bribe to quit the party last month.
Describing the PPBM Youth chief’s claim as “wild allegations”, she said she was considering taking legal action against him.
Earlier today, Syed Saddiq had claimed at a press conference that there were “hidden hands” trying to bribe him to quit the party and that similar offers had been extended to other PPBM leaders, including Hamidah, who has since quit the party.
“Tomorrow, I am meeting my lawyer to seek advice on possible legal action against him,” Hamidah told FMT.
“I never got an offer to leave the party and I am not rejoining Umno,” said the former Umno Wanita information chief and Gopeng division Wanita head, who left the ruling party in 2015 before helping to found PPBM in September last year.
Hamidah resigned from PPBM on Sept 16 this year.
Syed Saddiq had claimed he was offered RM5 million to hold a press conference to announce he would leave the country and to paint his party and its leaders in a negative light.
He claimed the bribe offer came with the condition that he attack former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad, former deputy prime minister Muhyiddin Yassin and former Kedah menteri besar Mukhriz Mahathir.
He said he was told to portray PPBM leaders as being concerned only about their personal struggles.
Mahathir is PPBM chairman, Muhyiddin the president and Mukhriz deputy president of the party.
Syed Saddiq, 25, said he was also offered special grants to set up a debating school in each state.
When asked to provide proof of the offer, he said he was in the midst of discussing the matter with his lawyers before taking the evidence to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).
Syed Saddiq and Hamidah had clashed before in PPBM.
Hamidah, a former Perak state executive councillor, had cited Syed Saddiq’s behaviour as one of the reasons for her exit.
In May, Syed Saddiq had called on her to “berambus” (get lost) after accusing her of masterminding the surprise mass resignations of more than 1,000 Perak PPBM members.
He had also called her a hypocrite, alleging that she was upset with Muhyiddin’s decision not to name her as Perak PPBM chief.
Hamidah had then responded by saying she would write a letter to the party’s disciplinary board for action to be taken against Syed Saddiq but later revealed she never sent the letter as she doubted the leaders would take any action.
