Highest temperature recorded is 36 degrees and thunderstorms will occur in some parts of the peninsula, says weatherman.
KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MET Malaysia) today denied claims of scorching hot weather reaching 40 degrees Celsius in the next five days.
These reports had gone viral on social media platforms.
Its director-general, Alui Bahari, said the highest temperature recorded last week was 36 degrees Celcius, below the heat wave temperature of 37 degrees Celsius.
“The sun is also not on the Equator line now. Based on the current monitoring, thunderstorms in the afternoon have taken place in several parts of the peninsula following the weakening of Typhoon Lan.
“These thunderstorms are normal during the current monsoon transition phase,” he said in a statement here today.
Alui also advised the public to obtain valid information from the MET Malaysia website at www.met.gov.my or call 1-300-221638.
