Twelve fighting cockerels and 14 men detained near Taiping.
KUALA KANGSAR: There is big money to be made from cock-fighting.
This was evident when police crippled a cock-fighting session during an operation near here yesterday.
Bets from RM1,000 to RM20,000 were placed on which cockerel would win.
Taiping district police chief ACP Ahmad Termizi Abd Haq said 14 men, including an Indonesian, aged between 30 to 60, were detained in Op Sabung.
The raid was carried out on an oil palm plantation in Kampung Kolam at 4.30pm.
Termizi said police also seized cash totalling RM19,000, 12 fighting cocks and gambling paraphernalia.
A team of four officers and 24 policemen were involved in the operation.
“Police found that four types of gambling games were held there, namely, ‘judi laga ayam’, ‘bola golek’, ‘Tai Sai’ and ‘belangkas’,” he said.
“At least 50 people were engrossed in gambling during the raid but most managed to escape into the nearby jungle,” he told a media conference here today.
