M Kulasegaran and Christina Liew are now the fifth and sixth Pakatan Harapan vice-presidents.
KUALA LUMPUR: In a minor reshuffle of its leadership lineup, Pakatan Harapan (PH) today announced M Kulasegaran as one of its vice-presidents.
The move came just a couple of weeks after prominent activist S Ambiga lamented the lack of Indian representation in the opposition coalition.
“We had a lengthy meeting today and we’ve decided to make some adjustments to the (PH) presidential council so that it also represents the Indians and the people of Sabah,” said PH chairman Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
“Hence, Kulasegaran, who was formerly PH’s treasurer, is now the vice-president. His former post will be held by Husam Musa.
“We have also decided to appoint Christina Liew from Sabah as another PH vice-president.”
Mahathir made the announcement at a press conference held at Amanah’s headquarters here this evening.
Accompanying him were the other PH leaders who included PKR president Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, Amanah president Mohamad Sabu and DAP’s secretary-general Lim Guan Eng.
Kulasegaran is the DAP MP for Ipoh Barat, while Liew is PH’s Sabah chairman and PKR state assemblywoman for Api Api.
With the reshuffle, PH now has six vice-presidents, two of whom are from DAP, another two from PKR, one from PPBM, and another from Amanah.
Ambiga last month said if PH was serious in its efforts to woo the Indian voters, the coalition leaders must indicate this in its leadership lineup.
“For me, placing M Kulasegaran as just the treasurer is tokenism,” she had said.
On a separate matter, Mohamad Sabu announced that Amanah’s national convention, which was initially scheduled to take place in Kedah this weekend, would be postponed following the passing of the Sultan of Kedah, Sultan Abdul Halim Mua’adzam Shah.
The new date for the convention has been set for Oct 21-22, he said.
“We are postponing all our programmes to October, including the PH Malaysia Day celebration. This is to mourn the passing of the Kedah sultan.”
