The PH chairman says the coalition is ready to make any changes necessary to prepare for the general election.
KUALA LUMPUR: Pakatan Harapan will seek a meeting with Home Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi over the approval of its logo to start preparing for the 14th general election.
The opposition coalition’s chairman, Dr Mahathir Mohamad, said after the Registrar of Societies had asked for PH to tweak its logo in July, there had been no update from the agency since.
Hence, the former prime minister said they would like to meet Zahid, who is also the deputy prime minister, to discuss if there was any problem with the coalition’s registration.
“We are ready to make the changes if necessary.
“And we are confident the home minister will give us the opportunity to present our views, while at the same time explain to us why the approval hasn’t been given.”
The PPBM chairman was speaking to reporters after chairing the PH presidential council meeting at the Amanah headquarters here this evening.
Present were the coalition’s president Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail and deputies Lim Guan Eng and Muhyiddin Yassin.
Mahathir said they would be writing an official letter to Zahid soon to arrange for the meeting.
In July, the RoS told PH it would have to change its logo to have the coalition’s registration approved and formalised. It deemed the logo unsuitable as it did not contain PH’s full name.
“Basically, we have to use both the words ‘Pakatan’ and ‘Harapan’ in the logo.
“So, we will comply with the request. We will come up with a new logo,” Mahathir was quoted as saying then.
The current logo features the word “Harapan” against a red backdrop, with the central “A” forming a triangular shape.
