The Red Shirts leader should also be charged with sedition and being a public nuisance, MCA says after Jamal smashes up several cartons of beer in protest of the Better Beer Festival.
PETALING JAYA: MCA wants Jamal Yunos investigated and charged over various offences including littering, following the Red Shirts leader’s latest stunt in which he smashed up cartons of beer in protest of the Better Beer Festival 2017.
Labelling Jamal’s act an “imbecilic stunt”, MCA publicity spokesman Ti Lian Ker said the Sungai Besar Umno division chief and his followers should also be charged with being a public nuisance, attempted vandalism and destruction of public property, criminal intimidation and harassment, and sedition.
“If not reined in, his boorish disposition can easily fall out of hand, portray Malaysia as archaic, unstable and extremist like the Talibans, and tarnish Malaysia’s image as a harmonious, multiracial country where citizens professing different faiths co-exist peacefully with one another.
“To put it bluntly, Jamal Yunos and all his ilk should grow up,” Ti said in a statement today.
Jamal and his men had reportedly turned up at the Selangor state government office this morning with cartons of beer which they dumped in front of the gate.
“Today I want to send all these beers to Selangor Menteri Besar Azmin Ali’s office.
“He and his gang can drink all they want inside but not anywhere outside,” he was quoted as saying by The Star.
Jamal then took a hammer and proceeded to smash up the beer cartons and bottles, which were labelled “Better Beer Festival 2017”.
Following this, he returned to his vehicle, ignoring a security officer’s attempts to get him to clean up the mess.
The Better Beer Festival had been slated to be held this month. However, it was cancelled after the Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) rejected the organisers’ application to host the event.
Utusan Malaysia had previously reported Azmin as saying the Selangor government would not prevent the beer fest from being held in the state.
However, the menteri besar has denied giving approval for the event.
In his statement, Ti said Jamal’s stunts might earn him attention and publicity but would also cost Barisan Nasional (BN) votes in the coming election.
“Jamal will cost BN votes due to his insensitivity and failure to respect others. If he thinks that his violence will pander or earn him praises from voters, he is sadly and badly mistaken.
“This time round will count as among the dumbest by the Red Shirts leader Jamal and must be condemned and chastised by BN leaders to dissociate his jungle antics from that of BN,” he said.
