PETALING JAYA: Red Shirts leader Jamal Yunos is under police investigation for unlawful assembly after smashing up cartons of beer outside the Selangor state government office this morning.

Shah Alam district police chief Shafien Mamat confirmed receiving a report on the incident.

“Investigations are being carried out under Section 143 of the Penal Code,” he said in a statement today.

Jamal could face a jail sentence of up to six months, a fine, or both if he is convicted.

The Sungai Besar Umno division chief and his followers had smashed up the beer cartons in protest of the Better Beer Festival 2017, which was initially scheduled to be held in Kuala Lumpur this month.

However, the event was cancelled after the Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) rejected the organisers’ application to host the event.

Following this, Utusan Malaysia reported Selangor Menteri Besar Mohamed Azmin Ali as saying that the Selangor government would not prevent the beer fest from being held in the state.

However, Azmin has denied giving approval for the event.
