No more roadside traders in KL by 2020

They will have to operate from food trucks or will have to relocate, says FT minister.

tengkunan-roadside-tradersPETALING JAYA: Kuala Lumpur city will be free of roadside traders by 2020, NST Online reported.

Federal Territories Minister Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor said all traders will have to relocate or conduct their business from food trucks.

He said no cooking would be allowed by the roadside but they will have to prepare food elsewhere before selling it at the premises provided for them.

He expected this move to affect hundreds of traders selling banana fritters or nasi lemak by the roadside.

The news portal said the minister revealed this when speaking to reporters after officiating the 2017 annual general meeting of the Malaysian Indian Muslim Congress (Kimma) today.

Present were Kimma president Syed Ibrahim Kader.

Syed Ibrahim supported the proposed move, saying it will help improve traffic in the city and prevent food poisoning due to unhygienic food practices.
