The former Felda chairman evades the press by slipping out through the back door of the building where the session was held.
KUALA LUMPUR: Former Felda chairman Isa Abdul Samad spent some five hours at Bukit Aman’s Commercial Crime Investigation Department (CCID) today over the alleged dubious transfer of Felda land at Jalan Semarak to private hands.
Inspector-General of Police Mohamad Fuzi Harun confirmed in a reply to FMT that the police had wrapped up their session with Isa at about 4pm.
He however declined to elaborate on the details of the investigation into the case.
Press members who waited outside the Menara 238 in Jalan Tun Razak, where the CCID headquarters is located, failed to get Isa’s comments as he was believed to have departed from the back door of the building.
Earlier, CCID director Amar Singh Ishar Singh had told reporters that Isa, who had also been questioned yesterday, had begun today’s session upon his arrival at 10.30am.
More than 50 media members had waited at the building since 9am following reports that Isa would be questioned there today.
However, he apparently entered the building through its rear, evading reporters and photographers.
Amar said Isa was the ninth individual to be called in to provide information on the case.
On Dec 21 last year, the media reported that Felda risked losing ownership of its land on Jalan Semarak worth RM200 million after the transfer of the land through dubious transactions since 2015.
The transfer is believed to have taken place when Felda Investment Corporation Sdn Bhd (FIC), a Felda subsidiary, appointed a local company as the main contractor on June 3, 2014 and was given the full power of attorney to develop the land.
Isa was Felda chairman from 2011 to January 2017, Felda Global Ventures Holdings Bhd (FGV) chairman from Jan 1, 2011 to June 19, 2017, and FIC chairman since it was established on July 2, 2013 until 2017.
In August last year, Isa was held under remand for five days for investigations into alleged corruption over the purchase of Park City Hotel in London by FIC in 2014.
