Mobile app to help drivers find parking

App is set to be launched in Subang Jaya, Petaling Jaya and a few places in Kuala Lumpur.

parking-mallKUALA LUMPUR: A local company has developed a mobile application aimed at facilitating hassle-free car parking that will enable drivers to find and book parking spaces in the heart of Kuala Lumpur.

With 2.1 million private cars commuting into the city centre daily and the worsening parking problem, the app, developed by Bayz Parking, is said to be able to connect drivers looking for parking with car park operators in the city.

“The average time drivers spent looking for parking each day in the city is 25 minutes.

“There are 2.5 million cars at the parking areas in the city each day,” Bayz Parking co-founder Scott Badger told Bernama after speaking at the “Urban Car Parking Mega Trends” session at the 9th World Urban Forum (WUF9) here today.

According to Scott, there are 915,000 parking bays in the city that are not under the jurisdiction of the local government authority.

He estimated there are about 800,000 more parking spaces in Kuala Lumpur city.

“Many condominium residents in the city areas have one or more parking spaces that they do not use. We should utilise those parking spaces,” he said.

Besides helping to reduce parking problems, he said, the app, which is said to be the first in Malaysia, would help Kuala Lumpur reduce the use of parking tickets as drivers would get access to parking supplied by host partners, such as hotels, condominiums and condominium residents.

Currently, the app is set to be launched in Subang Jaya, Petaling Jaya and a few places in Kuala Lumpur.

Drivers will be able to book their parking and make payment through the Bayz mobile app.

Customers need to choose the location and the app will keep track of the number of spaces available nearby.

Another co-founder of Bayz Parking, Sven Janson, said the app would be introduced in other cities in the country, including Johor Bahru.
