PETALING JAYA: The Kuala Lumpur magistrate’s court has approved a five-day remand for Mazlan Aliman of the NGO, Persatuan Anak Peneroka Felda Kebangsaan (Anak), till March 25.

His lawyer, Wan Anwar Wan Ibrahim, said Mazlan was being held at the Jinjang police station after he was brought to the court complex at Jalan Duta for the remand order.

He said Mazlan, an Amanah central committee member, was being investigated under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 for improper use of network facilities or network service, and Section 500 of the Penal Code for defamation.

“The remand is to enable further investigation to be conducted on Mazlan in relation to a video posted on Facebook,” Wan Anwar said.

“He was brought from the Kulai district police headquarters in Johor to the court complex at 3.30pm today. He was taken to the Jinjang station lockup after the remand order was issued,” he said.

Police had arrested Mazlan at his home at 1.35am today.

On Monday, the prime minister’s wife, Rosmah Mansor, had lodged a police report accusing him of slander over his claim that she was involved in a failed multi-million ringgit fish farming project which has been the subject of a corruption probe.

The Auditor-General’s Report in 2015 stated that Felda had yet to get any benefit or returns from its sturgeon fish project, despite millions of ringgit invested to kickstart the sector.

The report also said the sturgeon fish could not be sent to Malaysia because the aquaculture farm had yet to be built.

In a YouTube video of him speaking at a ceramah, Mazlan said the project, which aimed to produce the highly-priced caviar delicacy, said millions of ringgit was wasted on building facilities for the project which never took off.

In January 2017, the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) arrested five people suspected of corruption in the project.
