BUTTERWORTH: Police have recovered two sets of bedsheets worth RM1,400 which were stolen from a Pakistani carpet seller at knifepoint yesterday.

Police also arrested three suspects last night.

In the 12.30pm incident yesterday, the Pakistani carpet seller was riding his motorcycle along Jalan Pekan Darat here when he was approached by four men on two motorcycles.

The four men surrounded the Pakistani man and threatened him with knives. They then took all his valuables, including the two sets of expensive bedsheets, before riding off.

North Seberang Perai district police chief ACP Noorzainy Mohd Noor said after the victim lodged a police report, investigations led them to the suspects later in the evening.

Two men, aged 18 and 21, were detained at their house in Kampung Permatang Sungai Dua here. Police later detained another suspect, a teenage girl.

Noorzainy said police found one of the motorcycles used in the incident and the two sets of bedsheets stolen from the Pakistani man at the 18-year-old girl’s house.

He said the three suspects have been remanded for seven days until Jan 14.

“We are looking for another suspect, a male named ‘Pak Uda’.

“We suspect those arrested are part of a syndicate targeting foreign workers, where they would waylay them on the road and demand money and belongings at knifepoint,” Noorzainy said.
