Menteri Besar Azmin Ali says the state budget totalling RM3.12 billion includes substantial ‘sustainable development’ focus, with expected revenue of RM2.25 billion.
SHAH ALAM: Selangor Menteri Besar Azmin Ali has announced a budget of RM3.12 billion for the state next year, with an expected deficit of RM870 million which he said is due to the need to have “sustainable development.”
He said the budget’s focus was to drive the economy and provide development that would help ensure quality of life and well-being for the people.
He also said that the estimated revenue collection for 2018 was RM2.25 billion.
“Among the contributors would be land premium (48.3%), land tax revenue (23.3%) and land-related deals (5.9%),” he said.
Of the budget amount, 46.8% or RM1.46 billion would be for management purposes, and 53.2% or RM1.66 billion for development purposes.
He said the latter constituted a 1% increase from the allocation for development in the budget for 2017.
“This is the fourth consecutive year that the state government has increased the development expenditure ratio to be higher than the management expenditure,” he said.
“This is in line with the principle of ex ante (forecast-based) accountability in the planning and management of the budget,” he said when tabling the budget at the Selangor state assembly today.
Azmin, who is PKR’s Bukit Antarabanga assemblyman, said the budget was expected to experience a RM870 million deficit as a result of substantial allocation to meet the requirements of development that is sustainable for the people and the state.
“Under the operating expenditure, RM444.15 million will be for emolument, and RM557.79 million will be allocated for services and supplies,” he added.
“Meanwhile, RM359.82 million will be allocated for contributions and fixed payments, and RM98.24 million for acquiring assets and other expenses.”
Azmin also said the state government’s financial performance for the year as of October 31 was strong, with a current surplus of RM178.22 million.
Up till October 31, the state government had recorded revenue of RM2.5 billion, which was 98.14% of the estimated revenue of RM2.55 billion for the whole of 2017, he said.
