KOTA KINABALU: An outing to a shopping mall turned out to be anything but normal for a couple and their two children.
The family had gone shopping about 4.30pm on Tuesday when the girl, 15, who had been complaining about menstrual pain, went to the toilet.
When she didn’t emerge from the toilet even after an hour, the mother went in to check on her only to get a shock of her life.
As it turned out, her daughter had given birth while in the toilet and was holding the blood-soaked baby in her hands.
The Star quoted Penampang police chief Supt Rosley Hobden as saying:”On entering the toilet she found her daughter with the child.”
The report said the parents had no idea that their daughter was even pregnant.
The parents then rushed baby and mother to the hospital before reporting the incident to the police.
According to Rosley, the girl claimed she had had a sexual relationship with her 17-year-old boyfriend. However, she broke off with him five months ago.
Police are looking for the boyfriend to assist with investigations.
The Star quoted Rosley as saying the teenager and her newborn baby girl had been warded at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital.
Just two months ago, a Form Three student gave birth to a baby girl at her school’s surau in Bandar Baru Serting, Jempol, Negeri Sembilan. Her boyfriend was also a student in the same school.
