GEORGE TOWN: The 1Malaysia People’s Housing Scheme (PR1MA) has denied a report that only 1,332 units have been built until August.
Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Shahidan Kassim, in a statement today, said more than 259,881 homes had been approved and 141,661 units were under various stages of construction.
Shahidan said the estimated gross development value of the projects was RM35.4 billion.
“A total of 11,944 units of PR1MA homes have been sold to date, with an estimated gross development value of RM3 billion.”
Shahidan said PR1MA had 15,392 units slated to be built in Penang. He said one such project had begun in Permatang Pauh.
“Our Batu Ferringhi and Tasek Gelugor projects are still pending approvals.
“PR1MA is still in consultation with the Penang government on our Sungai Pinang and Teluk Kumbar projects,” he said.
Penang housing committee chairman Jagdeep Singh Deo had claimed that only 1,332 PR1MA homes had been built in the country up to August this year.
He said 625,000 units had been announced to be built by the federal government since 2013.
Jagdeep told reporters yesterday that the figures were obtained from a parliamentary reply given by Shahidan to Bayan Baru MP Sim Tze Tzin and after going through past Budget speeches by the prime minister.
