Liow there to "check on buses" in light of Xmas eve horror crash, chats with passengers.
KUALA LUMPUR: Transport Minister Liow Tiong Lai made a surprise visit today to the Terminal Bersatu Selatan transport hub here to carry out spot checks on express buses.
Liow tweeted: “A surprise visit to Terminal Bersepadu Selatan (TBS) this morning with @DG_RTD and @Wongsv to check on buses.”
Liow was also seen shaking hands and wishing passengers Happy New Year and a safe journey at the transport hub.
The minister’s visit comes exactly one week after the horror express bus crash in Pagor, which killed 14, including the driver and his baby. Thirteen of the victims died at the scene while another died in hospital. Sixteen others were injured in the pre-dawn crash, the worst express bus tragedy in the past three years.
In the minister’s tweet, @Wongsv refers to Wong Shaw Voon, the director-general of Institute of Road Safety Research (Miros). Wong and his team are investigating the crash and the authorities have said a report should be ready in two weeks.
