Number of flood victims drops to 1,220 at noon compared with 1,823 this morning.
KOTA BHARU: The number of flood victims in Kelantan dropped to 1,220 from 278 families as of noon today compared with 1,823 victims from 474 families this morning after three flood evacuation centres were closed.
Kelantan Director of the Malaysian Civil Defence Force (APM) Zainuddin Hussin said the three evacuation centres closed were two centres in Kuala Krai namely Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Kampung Bedal and Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Keroh and another in Tanah Merah namely SK Lawang.
“SK Bedal earlier had 397 victims from 121 families, SMK Keroh accommodated 35 victims from 20 families while SK Lawang had 171 victims from 55 families,” he said here today.
Meanwhile, three major rivers in Kelantan showed decreasing water levels by noon compared with 9 am today, according to the state government’s website at http://ift.tt/1lUz7IE.
The water level in Sungai Galas in Dabong dropped to 36 metres compared with 36.4 metres at 9 this morning, below the danger level of 38 metres. Sungai Lebir in Tualang was at 31.76 metres compared with 31.98 metres (alert level 35 metres) and Sungai Kelantan at the ‘Tangga Krai’ was at 24.7 metres compared with 24.82 metres (alert level 25 metres).
However, Sungai Golok in Rantau Panjang continued to rise to 8.97 metres as against 8.83 metres (alert level 9 metres) for the same period.
