Jamal should be a responsible citizen and hand over information to the police, Jazlan says.
PETALING JAYA: Red Shirts leader Jamal Yunos is only after fame by raiding gambling outlets himself, deputy home minister Nur Jazlan Mohamed has said.
Jazlan said Jamal should be a responsible citizen by giving information about the illegal gambling outlets to the police instead of raiding the premises himself with the media in tow.
“If Jamal has information, then he should have given it to the police, which has a special unit to handle illegal gambling activities,” he was reported saying in a Star Online report today.
Jamal, who heads the Sungai Besar Umno division, had been going after illegal business outlets in Sekinchan after the local council took action against his resort, which was running without a licence.
Earlier this week, he reportedly “raided” two outlets in Ampang Jaya. He claimed there were 400 illegal gambling joints and 600 massage parlours in the Ampang area alone.
He said the council should also act against other illegal premises in the area, and went on to play vigilante.
It was reported that Jamal had been warned by the police against taking the law into his own hands.
Inspecting and raiding a premises without permission is against the law and the premises owner can lodge a report for trespassing.
