KTM Berhad says none of the 191 passengers on the shuttle train were injured in the accident.
JOHOR BAHRU: KTM Berhad has been forced to close until Monday the railway track between Kempas Baru and Johor Bahru Sentral in Johor following the derailment of several coaches of a shuttle train at KM747.59 near Kempas last night.
None of the 191 passengers on the shuttle train were injured in the accident that happened at 11.15pm, KTM Berhad said in a statement today.
A KTM spokeswoman said all train services would continue as usual, but passengers would be transported in buses between the Kempas Baru and Johor Bahru Sentral stations.
“The services are expected to return to normal on Monday after the repair work has been completed,” she said in the statement posted on KTM’s official Facebook page.
Elaborating, the spokesman said passengers on trains running from JB Sentral to Tumpat, Kelantan, would be transported in buses from the JB Sentral station to the Kempas Baru station to continue their journey by train.
Likewise, passengers on trains from Tumpat to JB Sentral would be transported by buses from the Kempas Baru station to the JB Sentral station.
Passengers travelling from JB Sentral to Gemas would be transported by buses from the JB Sentral station to the Kempas Baru station and would continue their journey in trains to Gemas.
Similarly, passengers from Gemas to JB Sentral would be transported by buses from the Kempas Baru station to the JB Sentral station.
She said passengers who wanted to cancel their trips would be eligible for a full refund of the fare or they could request a change of travel date, depending on the availability of seats.
The spokesman said KTM would make periodic announcements on the status of its services in the affected routes, and apologised for any inconvenience caused.
