SHAH ALAM: Umno supreme council member Abdul Azeez Rahim today lodged a police report to call for an investigation against the party which allegedly used his name over the construction of the undersea tunnel project in Penang.

He said the report was made following his receiving a letter of demand from a legal firm representing a company on Feb 27, accusing him of abetting with an individual to obtain RM3 million from the project.

“I have received the letter of demand from the office of the lawyer representing Consortium Zenith Construction Sdn Bhd in which the contents of the letter accused me of being a swindler, a corrupt person capable of influencing the police and the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) on behalf of Zenith in the Penang undersea tunnel,” he said.

“In the letter, I was accused of receiving or abetting with a person named Datuk Abdul Jabarullah Kadersah to obtain RM3 million linked to the project,” he told reporters after lodging the report at the Shah Alam district police headquarters here today.

Also present was his counsel Jahaberdeen Mohamed Yunoos.

Commenting further, Azeez, who is also Baling MP, said he did not rule out the possibility that several irresponsible quarters or individuals had used his name to benefit from the project.

“I deny having been involved in this tunnel project… I am very loyal to the party (Umno). So, why should I be involved with DAP-related projects?” he asked, referring to the DAP-led Penang government.

Meanwhile, Jahaberdeen said he had given four days for the company to withdraw all the allegations and to apologise to his client before embarking on legal action.

“The police report was lodged because my client had been aware of the quarters who tried to use his name as an elected representative. In addition, we are looking at these allegations as false and baseless… It also involves the police and MACC,” he said.
