PUTRAJAYA: Starting this year, the application for teacher transfer is open thrice a year, namely in January, June and December, according to Education Minister Datuk Seri Mahdzir Khalid.
He said this was to overcome the problem of teachers who were not happy living separately from their spouses.
For a start, Mahdzir said the application for transfer for teachers in Sabah and Sarawak to return to the peninsula would be opened from Jan 15 to 25.
However, he said the transfer would not involve teachers in examination classes, such as Standard Six, Form Three and Form Five, so as to avoid disruption in the teaching and learning process.
“Prior to this, teacher transfer is done only twice a year, namely in June and December,” he said after delivering his new year message to 3,000 students and staff of the ministry at the Putrajaya International Convention Centre.
Meanwhile, Mahdzir said the ministry would carry out a review on the requirement to have some data to be entered into certain online applications, which was found to have caused extra work for the teachers and made it impossible for them to focus on their daily teaching duties.
He said this was because some data need not be updated daily into the ministry’s database to the extent of burdening the teachers.
In fact, he said such data could be stored offline at school or district education office and submitted only if requested by the ministry.
On appointment as headmaster or principal, Mahdzir said the criteria and requirements would be simplified without compelling the candidate to go through the National Professional Qualification for Educational Leaders (NPQEL) course at the Institute of Aminuddin Baki.
