69-year-old David Bowie who died recently of cancer, infinitely transcended music, art, and fashion. But Tan Sri Dato’ Sri Paduka Dr Lim Kok Wing (Lim Kok Wing) who helms the university of creative arts certainly does not think much of the idol to many.
As many tweets of condolences poured in for the musician, from those across the musical spectrum — be it rockers, punks, hip-hoppers, pop stars and even classical composers, the founder and president of Limkokwing University of Creative Technology, chose to tweet about how he does not understand the late singer’s antics, despite his popularity.
To this, local jazz songstress, Rachel Guerzo, stood up to defend the superstar, calling Lim crazy: “Some people think you (Lim) are crazy.”
Despite receiving 142 retweets and 51 likes for his tweet, and with many standing up to defend him, others felt just offended as Rachel, including some local musicians, who condemned Lim’s “style” instead.
Tweets from Lim did not stop there, he bit back at his critics saying they should “return to school to get proper education” and took the high road saying, if people did not disagree with his opinion, that’s fine, they should just not be rude.
Lim is most recognised for wearing black, as he deems it a conscious effort to build his brand.
“Black traditionally is seen as a colour for mourning in some cultures, but these days you can see that black has become very fashionable, especially among the young.
“I use black as a team builder and as a result, we are known for wearing black. It has become part of the branding and our brand personality,” he wrote on his blog.
