JOHOR BARU: One hundred fifty five people were left homeless after 27 squatter houses in Jalan Kebun Teh Lama here were destroyed in a fire early this evening.
During the blaze 41 Fire and Rescue Department personnel from five fire stations in Johor Baru and Kulai were deployed to the scene to put out the fire.
Twelve fire and rescue vehicles, including three water tankers, were despatched to the scene to help with the operation.
The department received the emergency call at about 5.15 pm.
Operation commander Ibrahim Omar said they only managed to put the fire under control at about 7.50 pm.
"There were no injuries reported in the fire. We are still investigating the cause of the fire as well as the total loss suffered by the victims," said Ibrahim.
