PETALING JAYA: Anyone who suspects that their credit card is being misused should inform their bank immediately.
A bank official said all banks have their own way of detecting the fraudulent use of credit cards.
"If a person is here in Malaysia and his credit card is used elsewhere in the world, he should lodge a report with the bank.
"The person should also bring along documentary proof to show he was in the country. The bank will be able to detect if the credit card was cloned or used fraudulently," he said.
He said there have been instances when people who are abroad claim their credit card is being used fraudulently.
"The first thing the person needs to do is to lodge a report with the police and also inform the bank.
"We at the bank will start an investigation to check if the person's claim is real or fake," he said, adding that the bank has various means of checking how the credit card is being used.
He said they will check with the merchant concerned, firstly, by verifying the pin number used during the transaction.
The bank official said if that was not possible, they will check the signature used to purchase the items.
"If the claims made by the person is proven, then the bank will refund them," he said.
He added that the onus is also on the owner of the credit card to take all necessary precautions to protect their credit card.
