Two Pahang Land & Mines Staff Charged With Receiving RM30k Bribe From Bauxite Operator

Pic: New Straits TimesPic: New Straits TimesKUANTAN: Two enforcement officers from the Pahang Land and Mines (PTG) Office were charged at the Sessions Court here today for accepting a RM30,000 bribe to conceal illegal bauxite-mining activity from an operator in Bukit Goh.

Enforcement officer Fadly Ab Malek, 35, was alleged to have committed the offence near the Sultan Ahmad Shah Airport compound between 12.20pm and 12.40pm on Wednesday (Jan 6), while deputy enforcement officer Syed Umar Khalil Syed Khalid, 34, was charged with abetting and committing the offence at the same date and place at 7.35pm.

The duo claimed trial to having received the cash from bauxite mining operator Anurul Hiraq Abu Bakar.

Fadly also faced a second charge of accepting RM35,000 bribe for the sale of the 13D form, also known as a docket, that the PTG office issue to miners, from Anurul under the company Aras Kuasa Sdn Bhd between 4pm and 4.30pm on Nov 18 last year.

He claimed trial to the charge.

The accused were charged under Section 17(a) of the MACC Act 2009 is liable to be fined RM10,000 or five times the amount of bribery, whichever is higher, and an imprisonment of up to 20 years, if convicted.

MACC Deputy Public Prosecutor Shafinas Shabudin prosecuted.

Fadly was represented by Muhammad Hisham Abdul Rahim and Syed Umar Khalil was represented by Datuk Syed Azimal Amir Syed Abu Bakar.

Judge Habibah Mohamed Yusof set bail at RM10,000 each with one surety and fixed Feb 5 for mention.
