ALOR SETAR: The issue of congestion and problems with ferry services at the Kuala Kedah ferry terminal has caught the attention of Transport Minister Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai who is scheduled to visit the terminal on Jan 21.
Kedah Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir said Liow had agreed to visit and see the actual situation for himself in order to identify problems related to congestion at the terminal.
"Several matters will also be raised at the meeting with Liow, among them parking problems and improvement and extension of the ferry terminal," he told a press conference here today.
He said of late ferry operators had been using large-capacity ferries which could accommodate 500 to 600 passengers in a single trip, thus reducing the frequency of ferry trips and slowing down the berthing process.
Recently, thousands of travelers were stranded at Kuala Kedah and Langkawi jetties after tickets between the two destinations were sold out following the influx of tourists to the duty-free island.
