DAP has always fought for Sabah’s rights, says Guan Eng

Only Pakatan Harapan can deliver what Sabah rightfully deserves, he says.

KOTA KINABALU: DAP’s Lim Guan Eng has dismissed suggestions the party was just another Malayan outfit, saying it had constantly been fighting for Sabah’s rights in the Dewan Rakyat for the last five years.

Speaking to supporters during a day trip here today, the DAP secretary-general assured that the party had always had the state’s best interests at heart.

The opposition party would ensure that Sabah’s rights under the Malaysia Agreement 1963 would be restored if given the mandate by the people, he said.

“The BN government has said they would ‘consider’ it. But they end up not giving anything.

“Only Pakatan Harapan (PH) can deliver what Sabah rightfully deserves,” he said.

“Under the BN, Sabah has become one of 14 states when you’re supposed to be one of three,” Lim said, referring to Sabah and Sarawak’s status when they first formed Malaysia with Malaya.

The Penang chief minister contended Sabahans were not getting a fair deal when it came to returns on oil and state revenue, pointing out the PH government would deliver on its promise to return these rights to the state.

This also included an increase in oil royalty to 20% and the return of 40% of the state revenue back to Sabah, he added.

He further claimed BN leaders were silent about Sabah’s rights in Parliament and instead the opposition has been the one bringing up the issue.

Towards this end, Lim said DAP opined PH had a bright chance of taking over Putrajaya after taking into consideration the good work they have done in Umno forts like Johor.

“We have spoken to crowds in Pasir Gudang and Muar, to 15,000 and 12,000 people, with 90% and 75% Malay voters respectively. People came on their own accord and there were no handouts,” he said.

Lim was in town to throw his support behind the DAP candidates in Sabah, meeting large crowds of supporters in three different locations here.

The incumbent Bagan MP left late today to visit Sabah’s east coast Sandakan district.

DAP is contesting a total of 10 seats in Sabah, namely the federal seats of Sandakan, Tenom and Kota Kinabalu, and state seats of Sri Tanjong, Elopura, Bingkor, Tanjung Papat, Likas, Luyang and Kapayan.
