The former Jasa chief explains his sudden decision not to run as independent in Batu Pahat.
PETALING JAYA: Batu Pahat Umno chief Mohd Puad Zakarshi decided against contesting as an independent after he sought advice from Johor ruler, Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar.
In a Facebook post late Saturday, he said many were curious to know his reasons for not proceeding with his plans to contest as an independent in the Batu Pahat parliamentary constituency.
“As a Bangsa Johor, I made the decision not to contest as an independent after getting advice from His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim. I adhered to his decree as I believe it is in the best interests of Bangsa Johor,” he said.
He also said if he had to file nomination papers, he would have missed his daughter’s wedding today.
He decided to attend the wedding instead and be with his family.
Instead of Puad, BN picked the division’s Wanita chief Harliza Abdullah as the candidate.
The seat was previously won by PKR’ s Mohd Idris Jusi in GE13.
After the decision not to select him to contest the seat, Puad resigned as director-general of the Special Affairs Department (Jasa).
