KOTA KINABALU: The search for a man who went missing while swimming at the river mouth in Papar yesterday was suspended this evening and will continue tomorrow, police said.
The man, Ng Hoi Lang, 20, had gone swimming with a boy, aged 12.
The boy’s body was found by fishermen at 6.50am today at Bundusan beach, about 1km away from where they were swimming.
The boy, Lai Chui Ming, was from Kampung Takis in Papar, said a media statement from the Sabah Fire and Rescue Department.
Ng was said to be from Kampar, Perak.
Papar district police chief DSP Ladamah Sulaiman said police had opened an onsite control centre, manned by three officers and 52 personnel from various agencies.
“The boy’s body was sent to hospital for a post-mortem.
“Five boats and five vehicles were used in our search today,” he said.
Ladamah told FMT the search would continue at 6am tomorrow.
The Papar fire station received a distress call about the two missing swimmers about 6.30pm yesterday.
The station dispatched 14 personnel to search for them at the river mouth and nearby beach.
Scuba divers from Beaufort also helped in the search today.
