He hopes strong support for the candidate from Umno division and good ties with grassroots will enable BN to win the seat.
KUALA LUMPUR: The strong understanding between Bandar Tun Razak Umno division head Rizalman Mokhtar and BN’s candidate for the parliamentary constituency, Adnan Abu Seman, is the best recipe to wrest the seat from the opposition on May 9, said Prime Minister Najib Razak.
In his speech at a tea gathering with residents there today, Najib said Rizalman’s strong support for Adnan showed the solid ties at the grassroots level in the constituency.
“They are a very good team. We want peace and we do not want any internal problems because we want to serve for the next five years.
“Datuk Rizalman has established a strong machinery and we have the chance now to exact change. We will ensure BN for Bandar Tun Razak,” Najib said.
Najib, who is also BN chairman, said Adnan was selected because the 42-year-old lawyer was a young candidate and a local boy who understood what was best for Bandar Tun Razak, which spans 37.82 sq km, and the residents.
He said BN wants a person with an agenda for the people and who understood the pulse of the community, and not someone with a personal agenda.
“We must feel the pulse of the people. We want Bandar Tun Razak to carry the (BN) flag and fight for its agenda in Parliament.
“I am angry that this place bears my father’s name. How come it is still not BN’s? Where did we go wrong? Please return Bandar Tun Razak to BN!” he said to loud applause and cheers from the hundreds of supporters present at the event.
Earlier, Najib had performed the Asar prayers at Masjid Azzubair Ibnul Awwam there with the local residents, after attending a meet-the-people session at the Taman Pantai Indah Phase 2 Apartments, in the Lembah Pantai parliamentary constituency.
The Bandar Tun Razak parliamentary constituency will see a three-cornered fight between Adnan, a new face representing BN, Bandar Tun Razak PAS head Dr Rosni Adam and former Tumpat MP Kamaruddin Jaafar (Pakatan Harapan).
In GE13, the incumbent for the seat Khalid Ibrahim, contested under the PKR ticket, and defeated BN candidate Tan Kok Eng with a majority of 11,832 votes.
