Amin Nordin Abdul Aziz says City Hall will discuss the matter at a meeting with KL MPs on Wednesday.
KUALA LUMPUR: Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) will look at the possibility of fixing the lifts at low-cost flats in the city which are notorious for being badly maintained.
“We’ll take a look at the situation and see if there’s a budget to fix them up this year.
“If there isn’t, then we’ll do it next year,” KL mayor Amin Nordin Abdul Aziz said at a buka puasa event at the Pantai Eco Park community centre here today.
Discussions on this and other matters will be held tomorrow at a meeting between DBKL and the 11 Kuala Lumpur MPs.
Amin said among the reasons for the meeting was to get the MPs up to speed with DBKL’s expenditure as well as to explain how DBKL can help the MPs carry out their duties as representatives.
“I’ve met a few of the MPs but not all of them.
“When we meet tomorrow, I will introduce the DBKL directors and give a talk on where the money is going and how we can help the MPs.
“DBKL should be considered the machinery for the MPs.”
Asked to comment on whether the previous government’s project to install safety nets or concrete slabs at low-cost flats would continue, Amin said that was up to the Pakatan Harapan government.
The initiative was started when a Form Three student from Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) La Salle, Petaling Jaya, was killed after someone hurled an office chair out of the window of a unit on the higher floors at the Sri Pantai flats in Pantai Dalam in January.
The person who caused the death has not been charged in court yet.
