The Warisan leader urges Musa Aman to relinquish his post.
KOTA KINABALU: Newly sworn in Sabah Chief Minister Shafie Apdal insists he is the rightful chief minister, following claims and counter-claims by the Umno-led and Warisan-led coalition in the state of having the numbers to form the state government.
He said Musa Aman, who was sworn in two days earlier, did not command the majority support of the state assembly, adding that the state Umno chief was constitutionally-bound to relinquish his position.
“It’s not a constitutional crisis because if he doesn’t command the confidence, then he must resign or dissolve the state assembly provided he has the consent of the Sabah governor.,” he told reporters after taking his oath of office at the state palace tonight.
Shafie said Sabah governor Juhar Mahiruddin had asked Musa to resign.
Musa was sworn in as the chief minister late Thursday after getting a simple majority to form the state government, following defections by two candidates from STAR, including its president Jeffrey Kitingan, to the Barisan Nasional (BN) camp.
But Shafie later announced that six BN assemblymen had agreed to join his coalition, increasing its seats to 35 from 29 previously.
