Illegal immigrants excited over Warisan’s win, says Kitingan

The STAR president says he joined Musa Aman’s group of assemblymen after hearing that many illegals were celebrating Warisan’s win, thinking their chances of getting MyKad are better now.

Jeffrey Kitingan urged Kadazandusun Murut-based former BN parties and other parties to return to the grassroots and form a new pan-Borneo coalition.

KOTA KINABALU: The immigrant community is excited about the “unconstitutional swearing-in” of Parti Warisan Sabah president Shafie Apdal as chief minister, STAR president Jeffrey Kitingan said.

Earlier, incumbent chief minister Musa Aman was also sworn in as chief minister.

Kitingan said with the presence of two chief ministers and the current constitutional crisis, it was time for Sabahans to unite to prevent a possible “reverse takeover” in the state.

“This development is a challenge to the pan-Sabah people who consist of the Chinese, Momogun and other communities,” he said in a statement.

He said Sabah was facing the possibility of immigrants, who hold work passes and the IMM13 documents, getting MyKad from the Warisan government.

“We have no objection to legal immigrants or those who can legally become citizens. What’s dangerous is any drastic increase in the number of illegal immigrants becoming citizens overnight.”

Jeffrey said it was time for Kadazandusun Murut-based former BN parties and the opposition that existed before the general election to return to the grassroots and form a new pan-Borneo coalition.

“Together with non-KDM parties and Gabungan Sabah components, we should now sit down and quickly discuss a Sabah political pact,” he said.

“I’ve heard that some KDM assemblyman who decided to join Warisan are rethinking their decisions because the conflict of interest is clear.”

Kitingan said many KDM people were angry with him for joining Musa Aman’s group of assemblymen but he said he did so after hearing that many illegal immigrants were celebrating Warisan’s win on the streets.

“I became more convinced of forming the agreement (to join Musa’s group of assemblymen) after getting an agreement from him to kick BN and Umno out of Sabah, implement the Sabah IC (identity card) programme and continue the fight for Sabah’s rights,” he said.
