ALOR SETAR: Ten members of the Kedah state executive council are scheduled to take their oath of office on Tuesday, says newly-elected Menteri Besar Mukhriz Mahathir.
He said each of them would be called to seek an audience with the Sultan of Kedah Sultan Sallehuddin Sultan Badlishah at the Istana Anak Bukit here on Monday to obtain his consent.
Mukhriz said the new exco lineup comprised four PKR assemblymen, three from Amanah, two from PPBM and one from DAP.
“Following the swearing-in ceremony, as the Kedah menteri besar, I am expected to chair the first exco meeting the next day (Wednesday), following our victory in the 14th general election on May 9,” he told reporters at the Pakatan Harapan (PH) breaking-of-fast event here tonight.
Mukhriz said the post of state speaker would be filled by a PKR assemblyman while the deputy speaker would be elected from PPBM.
“I think the appointment of the exco members is not slow as claimed by certain parties. It does not have to be carried out hastily,” he said.
In another development, Mukhriz said the management of the Kedah Football Association (KFA) met him recently and offered him the post of KFA president.
He said he would consider it in order not to contradict the PH manifesto to eliminate political interference in football.
“I need to consider the feedback of the people of Kedah as well. I am still open and, if necessary, I will lead KFA once again,” he said.
KFA deputy president Syed Unan Mashri Syed Abdullah yesterday confirmed that former Kedah menteri besar Ahmad Bashah Md Hanipah had resigned as KFA president effective Tuesday.
His resignation was followed by the resignations yesterday of KFA’s honorary secretary Aminuddin Omar and KFA treasurer Yusof Ismail.
