The Umno vice-president says instigating emotions such as anger, sympathy and sadness among voters at the last minute of the campaign has always been Dr Mahathir’s typical political antics.
JOHOR BAHRU: Umno vice-president Hishammuddin Hussein today said he would not be surprised if Dr Mahathir Mohamad came out with same old antics of playing with voters’ emotions ahead of the May 9 polls.
Hishammuddin said instigating emotions such as anger, sympathy and sadness among voters at the last minute of the campaign had always been Mahathir’s typical political antics.
Mahathir has not changed, even at the age of 93, Hishammuddin told reporters after attending the Assembly of Johor Bahru Veterans at the Larkin Youth and Sports Complex here today.
“Now Tun M wanted to visit the late (PAS spiritual leader) Nik Aziz Nik Mat’s grave and I do not know whether he was really sincere about it.
“If he is willing to do such things, there may be more things he will be thinking of doing just to try to instigate anger, sympathy and sadness among voters,” he said.
Hishammuddin said this when commenting on Mahathir’s planned visit to Nik Aziz’s grave at the Kampung Melayu Melaka Muslim cemetery today which was prevented by Nik Aziz’s family members.
In the meantime, Hishammuddin also disputed PAS’ sincerity in fighting for the fate of Malaysian armed forces veterans by nominating more than 20 military veterans as its candidates in the GE14.
“Why didn’t they nominate the military veterans before? Why now? Because they think they have the chance to mess up and exploit our veterans,” he said.
PAS nominated 24 candidates from among military veterans, including seven in Johor for the GE14.
