Immigration DG says no checks were necessary as opposition leader was travelling on domestic flight.
PUTRAJAYA: The Immigration Department has denied conducting checks on Pakatan Harapan (PH) chairman Dr Mahathir Mohamad at the Sultan Mahmud Airport in Kuala Terengganu before he left for Subang.
Immigration director-general Mustafar Ali said his officers did not conduct any checks on the opposition leader as he was travelling on a domestic flight.
“I have received the information and confirmation from the Terengganu Immigration Department director (Rahim Hanafi) who said Dr Mahathir was on a flight from Kuala Terengganu to Subang but no checks were conducted on him because it was a domestic flight,” he told Bernama when contacted today.
Earlier today, during a rally in Dengkil, Mahathir said when he was at the airport, the Immigration Department and the Customs Department conducted checks on him before he departed for Subang.
Recently, Mahathir had also claimed that an aircraft that was supposed to take him from Subang to Langkawi was sabotaged on the eve of nomination day on Friday.
The Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia denied this following a thorough investigation into the matter.
