The Facebook posting contained the person’s photo and a written threat to kill or do bodily injury to the person, together with insulting remarks.
SEREMBAN: An Election Commission (EC) staff member has lodged a police report over a death threat he received via Facebook, believed to be connected to the incident at the nomination centre for the Rantau state constituency on April 28.
Negeri Sembilan GE14 police media relations officer DSP Mazrin Mahmud said the 36-year-old man lodged the report at the Rembau police headquarters yesterday.
He received a WhatsApp message from his friend who shared the screenshot of the FB posting.
Mazrin said the posting contained the victim’s photograph and a written threat to kill or do bodily injury to the victim, together with insulting remarks.
“The case is being investigated under Section 507 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation (by an anonymous communication),” he told a press conference at the state police contingent headquarters here today.
Meanwhile, Mazrin also said police had opened four more investigation papers on GE14-related cases, bringing the total number of cases being probed to nine since the nomination day last Saturday.
The cases were being investigated under Section 427 and Section 500 of the Penal Code, Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998, and Section 4(1) of the Anti-Fake News Act 2018, he added.
On April 28, returning officer Amino Agos Suyub had duly declared Negeri Sembilan Menteri Besar Mohamad Hasan as the winner of the Rantau state seat, which he has held since 2004.
This came about after his sole challenger, Dr S Streram, of PKR, was barred from entering the nomination centre for not having his candidate pass, as required by the EC.
