Call to include new Teras members in SPDP unification

Parti Tenaga Rakyat Sarawak’s Udin Ali says all members of Teras should be given an opportunity to join SPDP.

KUCHING: A Parti Tenaga Rakyat Sarawak (Teras) supreme council member said new Teras members must also be taken in as part of the unification process in the Sarawak Progressive Democratic Party (SPDP).

Udin Ali said Teras comprised members recruited upon its formation, former members of opposition parties such as Parti Keadilan Rakyat and Parti Islam Se-Malaysia and former SPDP members.

So, together with the former SPDP members, these new members of Teras should be given membership, or the unification would not be complete, he was quoted as saying by the Borneo Post.

“Unification makes a lot of sense in the reconsolidation of the BN because Teras members include former members of SPDP and also new ones who are mostly former members or supporters of the opposition who had swung to BN through Teras.

“All in all, Teras has 26 registered branches, 27,000 members who are issued with membership cards and another 4,000 without cards,” Udin told the Borneo Post.

Acknowledging that not all former members of SPDP in Teras would want to rejoin SPDP, he said at least 60% of Teras members were prepared to join SPDP.

Udin was reacting to comments made by several SPDP and Teras leaders supporting the unification process of members and former members of SPDP.
