G. Ghanaraja claims that a prominent politician and a lawyer are threatening to kill him and his family if he does not pay them RM5.8 million over a failed business venture.
PETALING JAYA: A businessman has lodged a police report, alleging that he and his family are being targetted by a politician and a lawyer over a business venture that went awry.
The businessman, G. Gnanaraja alleged he had received death threats over the phone. The caller had allegedly warned that if Gnanaraja did not pay the duo a “token” of RM5.8 million, they would hire a hitman to kill him and his family.
“They said they will hire people from Thailand to kill me and my family. I now fear for my family’s safety,” he told FMT, adding that he lodged the police report on his lawyer’s advice.
Gnanaraja also said he and his family have gone into hiding since October.
Last month, MIC treasurer-general S Vell Paari alleged that Gnanaraja and his wife Geethanjali G, had teamed up with a forex investment company and promised over 200 investors, including students and pensioners, handsome returns.
Vell Paari had said the investors have not seen a single sen in returns from their investment. Ghanaraja and his wife issued an immediate denial, threatening to sue the MIC treasurer-general.
In his police report, Gnanaraja had said he was forced to enter a room with two big-sized “gangsters”, where he was then coerced into signing an agreement to pay RM5.8 million to the politician and the lawyer.
“They also threatened to tarnish my wife’s image and political career,” he said.
One of Gnanaraja’s lawyers, who wished to remain anonymous, told FMT that his client has been receiving death threats through the phone from a local thug, demanding that he withdraw the police report.
“They warned him to withdraw the police report, otherwise he will be shot. We are currently seeking protection from the police,” the lawyer added.
