KLANG: The Klang Municipal Council (MPK) did not apply for a permit to hold a fireworks display at Pandamaran Sports Complex, which went wrong and hurt 10 adults and four children last night.

“All the victims were receiving outpatient treatment and have been discharged from the Tengku Ampuan Rahimah Hospital here,” said South Klang district police chief ACP Alzafny Ahmad in a statement through WhatsApp today.

The fireworks display was a part of the Gegar Klang Fiesta organised by MPK, held from Dec 30 and scheduled to end today.

Alzafny said MPK, as the organiser, should have applied for a permit to hold the fireworks display.

In last night’s incident, 14 people suffered burns caused by fragments of exploded fireworks.

It was understood that instead of firing into the sky, the fireworks exploded on the ground.

Earlier, MPK president Mohamad Yasid Dugan said in a statement that the council would set up an internal investigation team to investigate the incident.

Mohamad Yasid said security measures were the council’s priority throughout the fireworks display that was attended by 15,000 people.
