Selangor exco: Thank you Jamal

Jamal Yunos, however, should let the authorities carry out the enforcement work, instead of taking matters into his own hands, says Selangor Exco member Ean Yong Hian Wah.

ean-yong-jamalPETALING JAYA: The Selangor government has thanked Jamal Yunos for exposing illegal gambling joints in the state.

However, it hopes he will pass the information to the authorities instead of acting on his own.

Selangor state executive councillor Ean Yong Hian Wah said the Sungai Besar Umno division chief should respect the laws and not “take matters into his own hands.”

“Thank you for helping us deal with illegal activities, but he himself must show a good example.

“He needs to hand over whatever information he has on illegal joints to the police and the local authorities for enforcement purposes,” he said when contacted by FMT.

Jamal, along with 100 youths, had yesterday “raided” two gambling dens around Jalan Kosas, Ampang.

Clad in a white robe and skull cap, Jamal brought with him cut-outs of Ean and Selangor Menteri Besar Mohamed Azmin Ali.

He claimed the duo had done nothing to curb the problem.

Jamal also alleged that the gambling dens he raided had paid RM10,000 to the Ampang Jaya Municipal Council (MPAJ) members for the operating licence.

This was denied by S Supiramany, MPAJ council member who is in charge of licensing and business development.

According to Supiramany, every licence application, including for entertainment, is subjected to a thorough vetting process.

“For example, massage parlours, in order to obtain a licence, must use glass walls so those outside can see what is going on inside,” he said.

He did not deny the existence of illegal gambling dens and massage parlours, but insisted that they were operating without MPAJ’s approval.

“We have already informed the police about this. MPAJ enforcers have also raided some of these premises.

“Jamal is wrong if he says we had taken money (from the illegal dens’ operators). If we knew they were planning to do something illegal, we would not have approved their licence application,” he added.
