Jotin Yojumpin, 42, was found dead with slash wounds on the neck.
Kudat district police chief Supt Douglas Nyeging Taong, when contacted, confirmed the incident which occurred at about 4pm and that a suspect was apprehended by local residents.
However, details on the incident and the suspect had yet to be obtained, he said.
In the incident, Jotin Yojumpin, 42, was found dead with slash wounds, which are believed to have been inflicted by using a machete, on the neck.
His wife, Saulin Moridik, 30, and three children, aged 17, 11 and five, have been sent to Kudat Hospital.
