According to a source, the former senator is disappointed with the direction the party is taking.
A source told FMT that the former political secretary to Anwar Ibrahim informed the PPBM secretary-general of his decision in a letter.
If Ezam has indeed quit the party it would make him the second person to do so after Khairuddin Abu Hassan.
The former Batu Kawan Umno vice-chief had on Oct 27 announced his exit from the party, citing the need to prepare for a string of court cases.
Ezam was among Anwar’s loyalists who played a vital role in the setting up of PKR. He, however, rejoined Umno in 2008 following a fallout between him and the former deputy prime minister as well as the PKR leadership.
The source told FMT that Ezam, who is seen to be aligned to PPBM chairman Dr Mahathir Mohamad, was disappointed with the direction of the party, especially after the decision to remove Anina Saadudin as the head of Srikandi, its women’s wing.
The source also revealed that many more PPBM activists would likely abandon the party.
The source questioned why PPBM president Muhyiddin Yassin was “holidaying in Europe” while the opposition was working hard to attract new members.
