In Seremban, 'Going For Coffee' Has A Different Meaning For Gamblers

SEREMBAN: If you're in Seremban town and you tell someone that you're stepping out for a cup of coffee, you'd probably raise a few eyebrows.

This is because some cafes here are using their outlets as nothing more than a front for the real business inside, which are 'mini casinos.' From the outside, the outlets look like any other eatery.

Police however, weren't fooled and launched Ops Dadu, spread out over two days until this morning to bust the operators. State CID chief Assistant Commissioner Norazman Mohd Yusof said the operation involved 30 officers who inspected 59 premises. “From the total, 50 premises were closed and we succeeded in raiding nine of them.

The inspection revealed that all nine premises were operating without licenses. “The operators applied for family entertainment licenses when they started the operation, however, their licenses had expired and also they had misused the license. “We believed that illegal online gambling activities were carried out at the premises based on the laptops that we found and seized at the scene,” he told reporters after the operation.

Norazman said 11 guards and five players were rounded up during the operation and they were arrested up under Section 4B(a) of the Common Gaming Houses Act 1953 and Section 6(1) Entertainment and Places of Entertainment Enactment 1998. He said 16 simulator machines, 14 laptops and RM2,067 in cash were also seized in the operation.

He said police also issued summonses to all nine operators for operating without valid licenses. “Similar operations will be continued from time to time to ensure business operators do not abuse their license."
