KUALA TERENGGANU: The number of flood victims in Terengganu has increased to 1,148 from 239 families at 8pm today as compared to 670 (186 families) at 4pm this afternoon.
More residents from three districts namely Marang, Kuala Nerus and Kuala Terengganu were brought to temporary relief centres (PPS) which resulted in the increase.
According to Info Banjir portal, the highest number of victims was recorded in Marang with 495 (11 families) at four PPS as compared to 368 (108 families) previously.
In Marang the four PPS are situated at Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Bukit Gasing housing 246 victims, SK Marang (212), SK Pasir Putih (31) and Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Seri Payong (six).
A sudden increase was also recorded in Kuala Nerus with 478 victims (104 families) seeking shelter at four PPS from 54 people (14 families) this morning.
In Kuala Terengganu, a new PPS was opened at SK Atas Tll when the number of victims increased to 65 people (20 families) from 45 (15 families), who were at SK Chendering this morning.
The number of flood victims in Dungun and Setiu, remained unchanged with 65 (14 families) at two PPS located at Kampung Rhu Tapai Community Hall and Kampung Nyatoh surau in Setiu and 45 (11 families) at Dewan Sivik Paka.
Meanwhile, Terengganu Civil Defence Force director Lieut Col Che Adam A Rahman said Jalan Permaisuri-Hulu Seladang in Kampung Besut, Setiu was closed to traffic as it was in 0.80 metres of water.
“Two other roads, Jalan Chendering-Bukit Payong, Marang near Sena Rendang and Jalan Matang-Nibong near Kuala Telemong, Hulu Terengganu are closed to light vehicles.”
He urged the public to use alternative routes as directed by the Public Works Department.
