[TAHNIAH BNM] Promoting usage of Bahasa Kebangsaan in the Financial Sector

Sekretariat Gerakan Bahasa Kebangsaan Sektor Kewangan Bank Negara Malaysia continues to undertake initiatives to enhance, promote and implement the usage of Bahasa Kebangsaan in the financial industry, in line with our financial inclusion initiatives and to generate greater awareness on matters concerning financial consumers. Bank Negara Malaysia, together with Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka (DBP), recently organised the 10th Pertandingan Pidato antara Institusi Kewangan Piala Gabenor Bank Negara Malaysia (Pertandingan Pidato Piala Gabenor). 
 
Pertandingan Pidato Piala Gabenoraims to improve understanding of the Bank’s policies and initiatives in the financial sector, as captured in topics on the digital economy; affordable housing; Perlindungan Tenanginsurance; Islamic finance; cyber threats in the financial industry; and cryptocurrency. The most popular topics this year were Hemat Berbelanja Keluarga Sejahtera; Rumah Mampu Milik: Isu dan Penyelesaian and Masyarakat Tanpa Tunai: Peranan Institusi Kewangan dan Penerimaan Orang Ramai.
 
This year, Muhamad Yusof Sulaiman of Sun Life Malaysia Assurance Berhademerged champion of Pertandingan Pidato Piala Gabenor in the finals held on 5 July 2018. Ahmad Safiuddin Nordin of AmBank (M) Berhad and Fartihah Nabilla Harun of CIMB Bank Berhad took second and third place respectively. In total, there were 83 participants from local and foreign banks, development financial institutions and insurance and takaful companies. The winners were awarded RM5000 (Champion), RM3000 (first runner up) and RM2000 (second runner up) cash prizes respectively. They also received a trophy, certificates of participation and books published by DBP.
 
Pertandingan Pidato Piala Gabenoris open to all staff from financial institutions. The Bank welcomed participation from six foreign financial institutions this year. Since its inception, the Bank has reached out to approximately 550 participants from over 30 financial institutions.
