SEPANG: The remains of a Malaysian, Muhammad Farhan Na’imullah Zubir, 26, who drowned at Myrtleford in Melbourne, Australia, on Dec 13, arrived at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) here today.
His body returned home on Thai Airways flight TG415, and was received by his uncle, Osman Ahmad, 59, and brother Muhammad Faiz Farhan Zubir, 22, at the KLIA cargo complex at noon.
Farhan’s remains were then brought to Johor Bahru at 2pm for funeral prayers and later to the Bukit Aliff Muslim cemetery for burial.
Farhan, who had worked as a fruit picker at the Farm Buffalo Orchard since January, drowned while bathing in the Ovens River, near his rented house.
His body was found by an Australian rescue team about 8pm.
The former student of Kolej Universiti Insaniah (KUIN) in Kedah took up the temporary job and was supposed to return home early next year to get married.
He got engaged to his college mate in September this year.
Meanwhile, his sister, Nurdiyana Zubir, 29, thanked everyone who had assisted them financially to bring back the remains as the process cost them RM50,000.
Maznah Salim, 62, Farhan’s aunt, also expressed her appreciation and thanks to Wisma Putra and the Malaysian Consulate General in Melbourne for ensuring the smooth repatriation process.
