State housing committee chairman Jagdeep Singh says Penang deserves to be heard on numerous housing issues.

GEORGE TOWN: The Penang government is disappointed that it was left out in a recent meeting involving housing and local government excos chaired by Urban Well-being, Housing and Local Government Minister Noh Omar.

State housing committee chairman Jagdeep Singh Deo said he and state local government committee chairman Chow Kon Yeow were not invited to the meeting on Tuesday.

“Clearly, Penang deserves to be heard as we have been very vocal in presenting our views on numerous issues that have impacted the housing industry in the country, in particular in relation to affordable housing for first time buyers,” Jagdeep told reporters today.

He said previously, a federal committee headed by then deputy minister Halimah Sadique had periodically help meetings involving housing excos from all states to discuss issues affecting the housing sector.

“Halimah has commended Penang. Also, a lot of ideas were exchanged between us and later implemented nationally,” he said.

Jagdeep said no such meetings had been convened since Noh’s appointment as minister, despite a personal assurance by Noh to him and Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng last year.

He said the state would request for another meeting to be held, to enable the exchange of ideas and input from both sides.

Meanwhile, the Selangor government was also not invited to the meeting, said state housing, building management and urban development committee chairman Iskandar A Samad.
